| Why Teacher Training in Uttarkashi? |
 |
| |
Located in the Himalayas on the banks of the Ganga River, Uttarkashi is a beautiful and spiritual setting perfect for studying yoga. Students will practice at the yoga shala with wonderful views of the sacred Ganga and the Himalaya, adding a unique connection to the surrounding environment. The region is a haven for trekkers and pilgrims alike. Because it is off the beaten path that foreign travelers usually take, the setting is free from the hassles and typical hawkers that tourists usually encounter elsewhere in India. The locals are friendly and hospitable and it is a place full of cultural and recreational opportunities. It is the perfect environment for study--offering a relaxed, focused environment with the opportunity for exploration during free time. You will get the full yoga experience in a spiritually significant setting while also having access to modern amenities and having the flexibility and freedom to experience and explore on your own. |

| About Uttarkashi |
| |
The holy town of Uttarkashi is set on the banks of river Bhagirathi (Ganga) at an altitude of 1158 mtrs, about 145 kms from Rishikesh on the main route to Gangotri (where Gomukh glacier is located-- the source of River Ganga in the Himalayas). It is considered to have similar religious importance as Varanasi. The famous Vishwanath temple here is dedicated to Lord Shiva. In front of the temple is unique Mahadev-ka-Vishal Trishul or Shiva's Great Trident, made of eight major metals. It is believed Lord Shiva killed Bakasur with this trident. Other important temples are dedicated to Lord Parashuram, Lord Ekadash Rudra and Goddess Kali.It is an important stopover for pilgrims visiting Gangotri. |

Himalyan Treks and Other Adventures: |
| |
Uttarkashi has emerged as an important centre for adventure sports where mountain climbing, camping and trekking can be enjoyed. |
 |
|
| |
|
|
| |
We highly recommend that students take time either before or after the course to explore the Garhwal Himalaya region through various trekking opportunities. We will organize 1 weekend trek to Gangotri and another weekend trek to be agreed upon by the group. Other longer local treks include Dayara Bugyal, Dodital Lake, Sahstra Tal (Thousand Lake), and Yamunotri. |

Additionally, there will be satsangs held at the shala most evenings after dinner with chanting, meditation, and kirtan and students are welcome to join. Variety shows with local Indian music and Himalayan folk songs will also be organized and students are welcome to participate and perform. |
